AHMEDABAD: With Gujarat government bringing out circulars for voluntary donation of land for public services in tribal areas, tribal can now donate land and so can general citizens.

In return for a “no compensation” deal, the government will put up the donors name on a plaque on the donated property site. The notification was brought out on May 9. The public utilities will be laid for upcoming industrial park, community buildings, social infrastructure including police stations and hospitals. Apart from this land will be required for roads.

“Some of the major tribal villages can actually become important service sector nodes for the agriculture activities in tribal villages,” a senior revenue department official in Gandhinagar said. Besides Gujarat government has also moved a proposal to the Centre involving smart city plans for tribal towns as well.

Names of Dahod, an important tribal town along with Godhra and Narmada were suggested by the state government for consideration in Center’s smart city project.
